04 September 2013 - EGAT International, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Thai national power utility, has won a licence to build and operate the 1,200 MW Quang Tri coal-fired power project in central Vietnam. EGAT is seeking potential strategic partners for the project. The plant will consist of two 600 MW units that could be commissioned as early as September 2016; however, EGAT plans to start construction in 2015, following the conclusion of the environmental impact assessment. The capacity of the plant could be later raised to 3,600 MW and the surplus could be sold to Thailand.
