[에너지신문] 02 December 2015 - The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has approved a financing package of up to US$500m for Egypt's new solar energy programme, estimated at US$4bn. The EBRD expects to finance several solar plants up to US$500m and to mobilise up to US$1.5bn in debt and equity from other financiers.

Egypt, which aims to cover 20% of electricity supply from renewable sources by 2020, plans to build up to 2,000 MW of utility-scale solar power capacity with around 40 projects of 50 MW each. A site near Benban in Upper Egypt could accommodate several projects and have a total capacity of 1.8 GW.
