[에너지신문] 08 December 2015 - Chilean power project developer Valhalla Energia has received the approval of Chilean regulators for the environmental impact study for its 300 MW Espejo de Tarapaca hydropower project. The US$400m project will use solar panels to pump seawater to the top of a 600 MW cliff; the pumped-storage power plant will generate power at night by releasing the water down to the Pacific Ocean. Construction is expected to start in the second half of 2016 and commissioning is scheduled for 2020.

Valhalla Energia is also developing a 600 MW complementary solar power project, Cielos de Tarapaca, which will supply power to pump water for Espejo de Tarapaca. The US$500m project is still awaiting regulatory approval.
