[에너지신문] 22 December 2015 - Swiss power utility BKW has submitted an application to the Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communication (DETEC) to decommission its 373 MW Mühleberg nuclear power plant, which started operations in November 1972.
The Federal Nuclear Safety Inspectorate (ENSI) will review accident analyses and emergency protection measures, the environmental impact report and the safety report, which will be put forward for public consultation in early April 2016. The consultation period will last about one month. BKW expects to receive the decommissioning order from DETEC in mid-2018.
In late 2013, BKW decided to shut the Mühleberg reactor in 2019, instead of the earlier planned 2022 due to "uncertainty surrounding political and regulatory trends". Switzerland has decided to phase out the five nuclear reactors, which will be progressively shut down between 2019 (365 MW Beznau-1 and Mühleberg) and 2031 (365 MW Beznau-2).
