[에너지신문] 16 February 2016 - Chile has started to export electricity to neighbouring Argentina through the Andes (Chile) - Salta (Argentina) 345 kV interconnection line, reversing the flows to supply a drought-hit Argentina, which is facing risks of power shortages.
In late January 2016, AES Gener was allowed by the Chilean government to sell electricity to Argentina. The company had applied for licenses after the results of a series of technical tests and studies carried out between December 2012 and December 2013. The line was commissioned in 2014 and enabled Chile to import electricity from Argentina.
Chile's AES Gener is now considering exporting electricity to Brazil through Argentina.
