[에너지신문] 22 February 2016 - According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), U.S. Gulf of Mexico (GOM) crude oil production will reach record high levels in 2017 in spite of low prices: the average production will increase to 1.63 mb/d in 2016 and 1.79 mb/d in 2017, reaching 1.91 mb/d in December 2017.

This increase in production will be linked to new projects having started in 2015 (8 projects), starting in 2016 and 2017: four projects will start in 2016, namely Shell's Stones, Noble Energy's Gunflint, Anadarko's Heidelberg and Freeport McMoRan's Holstein Deep, with two (LLOG Exploration's Son of Bluto 2 and Freeport McMoRan's Horn Mountain Deep) starting in 2017.

GOM production is expected to account for 18% and 21% of total forecast U.S. crude oil production in 2016 and 2017, respectively.
