[에너지신문] 07 March 2016 - The federal government of Nigeria has decided to split its giant state-owned oil company Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) into 30 independent units.

This reorganisation is expected to improve efficiency in a context of falling oil prices. Splitting NNPC into new independent companies is also expected to improve the accountability of chief executive officers. Nigeria is also facing accusation of bribery and misappropriation of funds in the oil sector (corruption allegations against the former oil minister) and NNPC has suffered from decades of corruption and mismanagement.
