[에너지신문] 16 February 2016 - BP and Oman's national oil and gas company Oman Oil have signed a Heads of Agreement (HoA) with the government of Oman to amend the Oman Block 61 exploration and production sharing agreement (EPSA), extending the licence area of the block and enabling a further development of the major Khazzan tight gas field. The estimated cost for developing Phase 1 and the Phase 2 extension is around US$16bn.
The Phase 1 project, sanctioned in December 2013, has estimated recoverable gas resources of 7 Tcf (197 bcm) and remains on schedule to deliver first gas in late 2017. BP expects to begin gas production at its Khazzan field in Oman by 2017 and to ramp up production to 1 bcf/d (28 mcm/d or 10.3 bcm/year) very quickly.
Subject to completion of the agreements and final sanction, the new Khazzan Phase 2 project will come on stream from 2020. It will add 500 mcf/d of gas (14 mcm/d or 5.15 bcm/year). The combined plateau production from Phases 1 and 2 is then expected to total approximately 1.5 bcf/d (42 mcm/d or 15.5 bcm/year), equivalent to around 40% of Oman’s current total domestic gas production.
BP is the operator of Block 61 with a 60% interest and Oman Oil holds the other 40%.
