[에너지신문] Canada's largest crude oil producer Suncor Energy has completed the acquisition of all shares of Canadian Oil Sands (COS), at an exchange ratio of 0.28 of a Suncor share for each COS share, which means a C$6.6bn (US$4.5bn) transaction, including debt of C$2.4bn (US$1.6bn). Suncor, through a wholly owned subsidiary, acquired 15.8% of COS and now owns 100% of the issued and outstanding COS shares.
Suncor Energy was created in 2009 through the merger of Suncor and Petro-Canada, the former national oil production company. The company is active in oil sands development and upgrading, onshore and offshore oil and gas production, petroleum refining, and product marketing under the Petro-Canada brand. COS holds a 36.74% interest in the Syncrude project, the largest producer of light, sweet synthetic oil from Canada's oil sands. The merger will strengthen Suncor Energy's activities in oil sands.
